How to convert SRT and VTT and adjust subtitle timing

Subtitle Workbench edits the timing and format of subtitles you already have. Paste text or select SRT and WebVTT files, review cue validation, and choose which timing changes to apply. Everything stays in browser memory. The app does not transcribe recordings, translate dialogue or process the accompanying video or audio.

Subtitle Workbench

Convert SRT and VTT, adjust timings, validate cues, and export local subtitle batches.

What you can do

  • Convert supported SRT and WebVTT cue text, with validation that exposes unsupported formatting instead of silently discarding it.
  • Shift timings forward or backward and explicitly choose sorting, negative-time, duration or overlap repairs.
  • Export one validated subtitle file, collect the batch in a ZIP, or download an imported original unchanged.

How to use this app

  1. Paste subtitle text or select UTF-8 SRT/VTT files. Inspect the selected file's cues, errors and overlap warnings before changing timing.
  2. Set the shift and optional repairs, then apply them. Review the result; timing changes start from the original cues rather than accumulating silently.
  3. Choose SRT or WebVTT and export, or validate every file for batch ZIP export. Apply or discard pending timing edits before downloading edited output.

Limits and privacy

  • Imports allow up to 20 files and 5 MB per file. Rich WebVTT metadata and unsupported markup can block conversion; original downloads remain available.
  • Converting positioning-bearing WebVTT to SRT is refused when it would lose information. Leaving or reloading clears the session, so export the files you need first.

Common questions

Are overlapping subtitles always wrong?

No. Simultaneous speakers can intentionally overlap. Overlaps are warnings, and shifting them later is an explicit repair choice.

Can the app create subtitles from a video?

No. Supply existing subtitle text or files. Transcription, translation and video processing are outside this workbench.

Is Subtitle Workbench free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free. Subtitle Workbench runs in your browser with no account or payment details, and it never uses OnePassApps credits.
