How to run a Pomodoro or countdown timer

Focus Timer runs a Pomodoro cycle or a single countdown in this tab. Choose the lengths, press Start and the time left appears on the timer and in the tab title. A chime sounds when a phase ends, and you can ask for a browser notification as well. It keeps no history and needs no account.

Focus Timer

Run Pomodoro focus sessions and countdown timers with gentle alerts.

What you can do

  • Run a Pomodoro cycle with short breaks and a long break after a set number of sessions, or a single countdown of up to 24 hours.
  • Pause, resume, reset or skip a phase, with Space, R and S as keyboard shortcuts.
  • Hear a chime generated in the browser, optionally get a browser notification, and see the time left in the tab title.

How to use this app

  1. Choose Pomodoro or Countdown, then set the lengths as whole numbers within the limits shown.
  2. Choose whether the next phase starts automatically, whether the chime plays and whether to use a browser notification. The browser asks for permission only when you switch notifications on.
  3. Press Start or Space. Use Pause, Reset (R) or Skip (S) as you need; sessions completed this visit are counted on screen.

Limits and privacy

  • Pomodoro accepts focus of 1 to 180 minutes, short breaks of 1 to 60 minutes, long breaks of 1 to 120 minutes and a long break every 2 to 12 sessions. A countdown runs from 1 second to 24 hours.
  • There is no saved history, statistics or task list. Settings and the session count are cleared when you leave or reload. Background tabs and locked phones may delay the chime or notification.

Common questions

Does it keep time in a background tab?

The time is worked out from the clock, so it stays accurate. Browsers may delay the chime or notification, and phones may pause them when the screen locks.

Why is there no sound?

Check that the chime option is on, your device volume is up and the browser allows audio. The chime is generated in the browser; no audio files are used.

Is Focus Timer free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free. Focus Timer runs in your browser with no account or payment details, and it never uses OnePassApps credits.
